**Update late 2013: this set has had a long run and I am surprised that Lego is still producing it. This cabin is a winner, however, especially at MSRP (29.99) or lower. It is always wise to cross-check with the Lego site.**Lego's Creator line is one of my favorite because the sets avoid the use of really specialized pieces and, instead, focus on the creative use of more basic pieces. This is much closer to the way Lego sets were when I grew up. You can, of course, buy the bulk Lego sets, but I find those boxes provide too many 2x4 bricks and not enough of the one-stud wide bricks and other key elements (like angled roof pieces). Creator sets like this one provide a great mix of very useful pieces, often in colors that are hard to find. And because these come with directions for multiple builds, they encourage rebuilding and experimentation. This year's first Creator house is a tidy little log cabin (there is another house, #5771 Hillside House, arriving later in the year, as well as a lighthouse island, #5770). This one is on the small side and it is not built on a baseplate but on a number of small plates (this represents a bit of shrinkage compared to years past). But it has a great color scheme, especially the dark roof tiles, and it has plenty of windows. There is a fireplace, one mini-figure, an ingenious kayak, a tree, and a fire pit with a spit. The top lifts off and the back side (of the A-model) opens up like a giant door; my kids have a lot of fun with this latter feature. The set has decent playability, though it really shines if you have other Lego people and things (vehicles, animals, droids, whatever) to expand the storyline. And since the cabin is unfurnished, your kids may want to make their own brick beds, brick tables and brick chairs.Overall this is a very useful set with a lot of possibilities and a modest price tag. It makes a good gift because if you don't like one design, it is easily changed into something else.Cheers**Update late 2013: this set has had a long run and I am surprised that Lego is still producing it. He loves it and plays with in along with a little lego caravan he has. It is great that the roof of the cabin can lift off so you can see inside. Also the side opens wide enough to see inside also. Another great piece of lego. Would recommend. Also great price as have seen it in toy stores at a more expensive price. The Lego Creator is a fantastic way to keep your child occupied. I bought this toy for my daughter and she spends hours creating different types of houses and fun objects. From helicopters to buses, the Lego can convert into whatever your child imagines. Definitely value for money. Its a bit expensive but my son Loving it. High on quality as we expected. My mum bought me this and I thought it looked good but when I made all three of them I realise that the minifigureDosen't really have enough room and has more things to do outside. Overall I think this product is good but you may get bored with it after a while.I bought this for my niece on my brother's recommendation. On a recent visit I was given the guided tour of one of the three models you can build with it, and to be fair it looked rather cosy. Slightly on the small side but cosy enough. So it was a good result from uncle! Now with Christmas nearing I might have to revisit Lego Creator again!
